The Colon Hydrotherapy Process
Congratulations on starting your journey to a healthier digestion system! We understand you may be nervous. Most first-time clients are, but at Healing Waters of Raleigh, we have over 3,000 returning clients who swear by the safety, effectiveness, and healing power of our colonics. Colon hydrotherapy is an ancient and natural remedy for improving your health, so rest assured that all is well. You are in professional, experienced, and caring hands.
The process is simple. As a new client, your session starts with a wellness consultation with your I-ACT certified colon hydrotherapist who will review your file and give you time to ask any questions. During your discussion, you will learn about the colon hydrotherapy device, BioMat, organic salve, and one-time-use colonic kit. You will cover expectations, which are also listed in the section below. Lastly, you will be asked to use the bathroom and return to the table to start the session.
Most sessions last about 40-50 minutes, depending on your comfort level. After the session is complete, you will use the bathroom, get dressed, and come out feeling lighter and calmer. We end your hour at Healing Waters by discussing any products that may aid your health journey, finalizing payment for your appointment, supplying you with a list of ways to improve digestion, and sending you home with a genuine smile.
Expectations & FAQs
Do you offer closed or open colonics?
We offer closed-system colonics. That means the system for removing waste is fully enclosed, creating minimal to zero odor or noises. There is no need to leave the table to use the bathroom. You are relaxing on your back the entire session and will receive therapist guidance throughout the hour. Closed systems are often easier and more effective for first-time clients.
Can anyone have a colonic anytime?
No, colonics are not appropriate for everyone in every situation, just like massages, infrared sauna, or other common health services. Your safety is our highest priority. Be sure to carefully read the contraindications listed in the next section to see if you are a good candidate for a colonic.
Do colonics help with GLP-1 treatments?
While on GLP-1, your digestive system slows down. Therefore, colonics do help with GLP-1 treatments by keeping the colon stimulated and moving. They also keep your body hydrated. For GLP-1 users, Healing Waters offers a colonic program plus supplements that will help you have a bowel movement each day while on the treatment and after you quit using the medication.
Do you have a bowel movement in front of someone during a colonic?
No, you are not openly having a bowel movement in front of the therapist, but the therapist will be in the room while wastewater leaves your body through the system. There is a view tube in the colon hydrotherapy device that allows both you and the therapist to see what leaves your body, which is very important to your health education and understanding the effectiveness of the service. Client comfort, dignity, and privacy are primary concerns at Healing Waters. We would not have over 3,000 clients and 200+ five-star reviews if the treatment was embarrassing, dangerous, or noneffective.
How should I prepare before my appointment?
We usually recommend drinking plenty of water prior to your session and eating lighter meals throughout the day. Avoiding heavy, greasy, or highly processed foods before treatment may also help improve comfort during your session.
What should I expect after a session?
Many clients report feeling lighter, refreshed, hydrated, or more energized following treatment. Individual experiences can vary, and maintaining hydration after your appointment is strongly encouraged.
Will a colonic cause weight loss?
Colonics can cause temporary weight loss for a few hours, but they are not considered a reliable method for true fat loss. What people often notice after a colonic is a lower number on the scale immediately afterward, reduced bloating, less abdominal fullness, feeling lighter or less "backed up,” and a flatter-looking stomach for a short time. The weight loss is typically due to the evacuation of stool and intestinal contents. A colonic does not directly burn body fat.
How long does a session usually last?
A typical session generally lasts between 45 minutes to one hour, depending on the individual and their wellness goals.
Is colon hydrotherapy painful?
Most clients describe colon hydrotherapy as gentle and manageable. Some individuals may experience temporary sensations of fullness, pressure, or mild cramping as water enters the colon, but discomfort is typically minimal and short-lived.
Will I have privacy during the session?
Yes. Client comfort, dignity, and privacy are extremely important to us. Instructions are provided clearly and professionally, and clients remain appropriately covered throughout the process.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies from person to person based on individual wellness goals, lifestyle habits, and personal preferences. Some individuals choose occasional maintenance sessions, while others incorporate colon hydrotherapy into a broader wellness routine. If you are severely constipated or trying to completely reset the colon, we recommend a 3- or 5-colonic series package where you receive multiple colonics in a short period of time. Call us to learn more about our colonic series packages and how a deep detox can completely change the way you feel and function.
Is colon hydrotherapy safe?
When performed by trained professionals using modern equipment and proper sanitation procedures, colon hydrotherapy is generally considered safe for appropriate candidates. However, certain contraindications do exist, which is why reviewing your health history beforehand is an important part of the process. Please carefully review the contraindications listed below to see if you are a good candidate for a colonic.
